Day 8
Saturday, January 8
Aiden is supposedly teething. At least that is what the doctor said when Matt took him in today because he was running a fever and not eating well. I say supposedly because he has been "teething" for a long time now, but I guess that is possible. Anyways, not the point... I captured this minute between him and Daddy today, and decided to explore the world of editing effects a little more. I am a total editing illiterate, so learning more is a goal of mine this year. I do like this effect, but to me it looks edited... I don't know. I am tired today, so maybe I am just a little off =)

I really like the editing. I think it's a sweet moment and the editing emphasizes that.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the B&W of the edited one, plus the nice vignetting. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white, what a sweet shot! What program are you using to edit? If you have Photoshop the Pioneer Woman has some great free actions, and two of them are great for correcting white balance (take this with a grain of salt, I am pretty editing illiterate too)
ReplyDeleteI also like the B/W edit and the sweet expression on the baby's face. I had WB and edit issues on my photo today too. It's part of the process I suppose. I really love your composition on this one.
ReplyDeletePrecious. We are dealing with new teeth right now too. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteNew follower here!
I too am playing along with the Project 365! I would love it if you would come over to my place and check it out. :)

I really appreciate the input. I tried photoshop once and couldnt do a darn thing lol. I did the free trial of lightroom and loved the preset effects, but didnt have time to learn much before the trial expired. I have always just used picasa for cropping and conversion, but another 365er suggested picnik for more editing so that is where I did this :) free is right in my price range now that I am a sahm haha
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet photo. I am also just starting to learn editing. I downloaded the free trial of lightroom last night and it is amazing! I have the old photoshop but its so hard to use and navigate, lol. Good job on the photo! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the b/w photo! Really makes you focus on his precious face.
ReplyDeleteI like the conversion! I would recommend getting PS Elements if you want to learn editing. It is a great place to start and it is relatively inexpensive (compared to full photoshop) and will give you some room to grow. Sometimes you can get it for less than $100
ReplyDeleteI really love your edit, the B&W is beautiful. I'm sorry he's not feeling well. I think we have a teething baby right now too. Lots of crankiness along with a rash that won't go away. We've been to the docter too and it's just a waiting game.
ReplyDeleteOh man, we are teething too & it is a B!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs far as your shot, I like the b&w. For the color one you mentioned WB. Do you try & adjust that in your camera? Sometimes I'll take several shots while changing my WB to see which looks best. Not easy when you are trying to snap up a moment but I'm hoping that by doing it, I'll instinctually start to figure out which is best.
I like the black and white conversion. Editing can be a challenge :O)

ReplyDeletePoor little guy! Hope he's feeling better soon!

ReplyDeleteI also consider myself editing illiterate and want to make it my goal to improve :) That being said, I don't think the B&W looks too edited AT ALL. I really think it's gorgeous. So to you I say, GREAT JOB!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job too. He is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteThe B&W one is gorgeous. I'd definitely have that one framed.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic. I love the black and white, but the color one is good also. The color is warm, and it works!
ReplyDeleteBranson, both are beautiful! The original would have been great to have left alone, but the vignette is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI'm straggling in from Mailbox Monday. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your photos and look forward to visiting often!

I think it looks great! I love those moments between daddy and baby :)
ReplyDeleteI love it but you now you can fade after you click the edit button on picnik to adjust to your liking? It's all fun playing around. I love this moment you captured :-)
ReplyDeleteOh that black and white is so sweet! That is such a precious moment captures!!! I'm glad you linked up this week! What a cute blog you have!
ReplyDeleteAnd for editing! The funnest part is learning! Good thing for blogs who offer free tutorials and all kinds of advice and techniques!
Nope, I don't think it's over done at all.
ReplyDeleteBesides improving on my photography my other goal is to big proficient at PSE 9. I'm pretty comfortable with both but I have room to grow! :)

What a precious shot! Yes, the b/w does look edited, but it does not look over-edited. I think it's quite nice. The vignette brings the focus to your sweet baby's face.
