From Sunday Dinner to Silly String {10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week}

Friday, October 2

I am not going to lie... this was a hard week. I have been sick, there are some things we are struggling with, and it has been a week with more than it's fair share of tantrums and tears. And yet... there is always joy in each day, and once again I am thankful for the motivation to think on this fact!

1. Sunday dinner with our college girls. We have "adopted" 3 freshman girls from Concordia University to support and encourage during their time here. One we had already connected with because her mom was an acquaintance back in Missouri and contacted me when her daughter decided to go to school here. The other two we just met this week. They are all amazing young women, and we are so excited to be a part of their lives while they are here! (And of course Aiden adores them... especially because they all played awesomely with him!)

2. Actually, last Friday night we also had a great dinner with friends that I guess I wouldn't have written about last week. Drew and Angie are expecting their first baby soon, and it was so fun to catch up with them and chat about baby stuff. We also introduced them to our new favorite game (Machi Koro) that we had borrowed. And given that Drew is also one of our Pastors (the one I usually work with) I was quite proud of both of us for keeping from "shop talk" all night. Ha! It is good to just spend time with friends and relax.

3. Good books... Abundant Simplicity, The Mission of Motherhood, and Unglued are a few I have picked up this week. I still rarely finish a book like this because I keep picking them up when I need them and re-reading things.

4. An answered prayer for my mom.

5. God's continued provision for my online Bible study group as I step away from leadership for a session. As the date to turn things over to the women who stepped up to take over for me approaches I feel nothing but peace, and that is a true blessing.

6. Making good food for my family... especially my husband. I enjoy being able to cook from scratch and try to make sure dinner is worthy of the work he puts in to support us! And I found a great new stroganoff recipe this week that definitely accomplished that! I am no master chef, but it makes me happy to try new things.

7. Honest conversations... even if they are hard.

8. Listening to Aiden read. I might have included that last week (I can't remember) but it seriously is my favorite time of each day with him.

9. My friend Julie, who never gives up on me.

10. Watching Aiden and his best buddy discover silly string for the first time! It was a perfect reminder to find joy in little things and just have fun.

  2. What a great thing you and your family are doing! I think as a freshman in college it would have been great to have a "family" somewhat local to go to when times are difficult and you need that extra support or hug from someone who has your back.
